ECE Director, Bachelor's in Elementary Education, Martin Luther College
As a child, my mother had child care in our home. I have seen, first hand, the importance and impact of a Christ-centered, loving, and nurturing environment on children. They thrive when treated with the forgiveness and positive reinforcement of a parental model.
I have had the opportunity to teach Kindergarten, three year old, and to raise three (soon to be four) beautiful children of my own with my husband, Pastor Dan of Holy Word.
As a family, we enjoy adventures like exploring the Austin area parks, Sea World, swimming, and running/walking/biking around town.
Favorite Bible Verse - I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
- Philippians 1:3-6
College Degree: Bachelor's in Elementary and Special Education
Degree started at University of WI-Eau Claire & completed at University of TX-Austin
Early Childhood degree from Martin Luther College
My teaching career started in Lockhart, TX teaching 7th&8th grade resource followed by 5th&6th grade resource in the Houston area. Our family returned to the Austin area where I subbed at various times, taught grades 3-5 at Holy Word for one year, followed by pre-k & kindergarten and finally just kindergarten for 17 years.
Our family is now two of us at home, my husband Andy, a self-employed petroleum geologist and myself. We have two married children and two grandchildren.
We attend Christ the Rock Lutheran Church in Hutto.
There are many scripture verses I love, but my go-to verse is Psalm 46:10~Be still and know that I am God.
I have worked in childcare for many years, from babysitting in middle school and high school to raising my own three boys. For 5 years I worked at Flip N Swim day care working in the infant and toddler rooms, during the summer I was the swim instructor and lifeguard. After that was a substitute teacher for Marble Falls ISD and for Holy Word Christian Academy.
For the past three and a half years, I have been a nanny.
I have a passion for art and plan on using that in the Sprouts classroom to inspire creativity in the children.
Favorite Bible Passage: "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails." -1 Corinthians 13:4-8.
Ho Yi Wong (Ruby)
College Degree: Bachelor of Science in Education from Martin Luther College; New Ulm, Minnesota. Teaching has long been a passion of mine. I think that a child’s first step into education is the most important step they take. I’m so grateful I get to be a part of shaping young students for a lifelong love of learning. Seeing children take an interest in learning as they grow in a safe and happy atmosphere always brings me joy. Before I had kids of my own, I taught preschool and kindergarten both in Hong Kong and the U.S. But I never really stopped teaching.
My two little ones provide a lot of practice as I continue to grow as a teacher. I enjoy teaching my kids English, Cantonese, and Mandarin. I look forward to growing with my students as I interact with them day by day! May God give me wisdom, and may He teach his children through me.
Favorite Bible Passage:
Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” -Joshua 1:9
Hi! I am Miss Katie Ruiz and I am the lead teacher in the Sprouts classroom. I live in Leander with my husband, Pastor Daniel Ruiz and my three children, Adrianna (4 1⁄2), Everest (3), and Elias (1). We also have a sweet dog named Elsa we recently added to our family through adoption. I grew up in central Minnesota and went to college at Bethany Lutheran in Mankato. Here I obtained my K-6 teaching license with a Lutheran teacher emphasis. During my time at Bethany, I studied abroad for a semester in Greece and traveled to Egypt and Turkey as well.
Ever since traveling abroad, I have had a love for traveling. My family loves to go to new places and explore, especially anywhere outdoors. We love to go hiking, biking, camping, kayaking, sitting by a campfire, and having picnics. When we are indoors we love to play games, coloring, imaginative play, and cooking or baking (or in Elias’s case- eating!).
I am very excited to be a teacher in the Sprouts room. After having three littles of my own, I have grown to love the awe and wonder small children have for everything. Their minds are begging for new experiences, more knowledge, and social interaction. I plan to have activities that use all of their senses and foster their natural love for learning throughout the week.
Our newest caregiver starting at Hannah’s World is Ms. Brooke! She will be a floater and help primarily with openings and closings. Brooke is going to college, working towards her Bachelor’s degree in nursing and intends to work in pediatrics after she graduates. She loves music, anything that involves creativity, and making people laugh.
Ms. Brooke lives with her amazing parents and has two older brothers. She has always had a passion for working with children and has been actively pursuing that passion all her life whether it is babysitting, going on mission trips, nannying full time, teaching Sunday School or just helping wherever and whomever she can.
“Honestly, I just love children. I love seeing their eyes light up when they learn something new and I love that I can be just as bright a light in their lives as they can be in mine. Nothing is more rewarding than being able to combine my love for Christ and my love for children in the same place. Getting to work at Hannah’s World is a great blessing in my life and I can’t wait to work with these kids and grow alongside them.”
Her favorite Bible verse is Romans 5:3-5
“Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.”
